Soapstone for a countertop is just one of the many great applications for this natural and versatile resource. Unlike other stones that tend to be porous, soapstone's inability to stain or absorb anything makes it a great choice for a work surface or sink. Also being non-porous will give it the advantage of not harboring or holding in harmful bacteria from raw meats. Speaking of meat, on of my favorite characteristics of soapstone is the density. It will absorb temperature hot or cold, place a frozen steak or pizza dough on the counter and it is thawed in no time, depending on the thickness. A soapstone counter is virtually maintenance free, you never have to seal it, we apply at the end of an installation a food safe mineral oil/wax blend to enhance the natural characteristics and veining of the stone. The oil/wax blend is purely aesthetic, and very easy to apply, or you may choose to leave it the original state of grayish blue, it is up to you. When cleaning, just a warm wet cloth is all that is needed.  So if you are looking for something to enhance the beauty of your kitchen or any room, but want something a little different, and like the hard working properties of soapstone, give us a call with any questions you might have. Samples of our current inventory are available upon request.
